The Dying Violets

Grey grew up in the shadow of death—and eventually chose to walk toward it.

Shaped by loss from an early age, Grey built a career sitting with people at the end of life, listening to them and their families as they confronted the unimaginable. Along the way, he experienced profound losses of his own, including the suicides of four people he loved.

Those experiences became the foundation for The Dying Violets and their debut album, Pain Is Beautiful—a dark, deeply personal exploration of loneliness, despair, and the thoughts that can exist in the space between pain and surrender.

This isn't music about glorifying darkness. It's about giving it a voice.

Grey transforms grief, fear, guilt, anger, and isolation into something beautiful, creating songs for people who have ever felt lost in the shadows and believed they were carrying their pain alone.

His guiding mantra is simple:

“Love from as deep a place as the pain has touched.”

Sonically, Pain Is Beautiful draws from everything that shaped him—from hymns and '50s and '60s oldies to '90s grunge and beyond. True to the project's DIY spirit, Grey wrote, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered the album himself, teaching himself every step of the process.

What emerged isn't a diary, and it isn't fiction.

It's the space between the two—the sound of someone taking everything they've lost and turning it into something that might help someone else feel less alone.

The darkness is real. So is the beauty that can grow from it.
