The Dying Violets

Grey grew up in the shadow of death—and eventually chose to walk toward it.

Shaped by loss from an early age, Grey built a career sitting with people at the end of life, listening to each of them as they confronted life's final mystery. 

Along the way, he experienced profound losses of his own, including the suicides of four people he loved.

Those experiences became the foundation for The Dying Violets and their debut album, Pain Is Beautiful—a dark, deeply personal exploration of loneliness, despair, and the thoughts that can exist in the space between pain and surrender.

This isn't music about glorifying darkness. It's about giving it a voice.

Grey doesn't dress up grief, fear, guilt, anger, and isolation - he puts them on the record exactly as they are.

Sonically, Pain Is Beautiful draws from everything that shaped him— old hymns, '50s and '60s pop, '90s grunge, and many more. True to the project's DIY spirit, Grey wrote, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered the album himself, learning every step of the process.

What emerged isn't a diary or fiction:

It's the transformation of pain into beauty.

In the fertile ground of darkness, Grey repeats his mantra:

“Love from as deep a place as the pain has touched.”
